General:- Study of the most important harmonic, melodic and rhythmic elements of musical (Jazz-)

syntax - Study/research of the interaction of these elements into one organic unit.

Analysis:

The classic style features: - General basic syntax of the musical phrase: - The motif, motif development, connecting motif material, the musical phrase (phrase/ subphrase)+ exercises/ analyses - Types of phrases (general) - Lengthening phrases/techniques - Connecting phrases/ techniques - Small forms

Harmony:

The classical styles: The tonal functional system- basic definitions and principles - major/minor/modal interchange/ linear aspects of harmony in triads and non-chord tones/ voice leadership basic principles - major/minor/modal interchange/linear aspects of harmony in 7th -chords and extensionchords - Secondary dominants/tritone substitution/sequential dominants/related subdominants - Chord/scale relationships
