Course Content

Harmony:
High and Late Romanticism.
Broader and deeper study:
- The dissonant harmony (all seventh and nine chords)
- Altered chords, equivalent meaning of chords, pedal notes, sequences and chord progressions, modulation types.
- The harmonic phenomena within the various harmonic languages and style periods.
- The chromatic harmony.

Notion of figuration.
Realisations of exercises of progressive difficulty and complex structure containing all seventh chords, the dominant ninth chord, altered chords and pedal notes.
Possibility to already use a basic form of figuration in the realisations.

Harmonic analysis:
- Studying and commenting on the harmonic content of scores.
- Excerpts from musical literature dating from the High and Late Romanticism (Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Brahms, Franck etc.).
- Notion of post-tonal harmonic languages.
