Course Content

Harmony:
Baroque, Classicism and Early Romanticism.
Broader and deeper study:
- Study of the origin of chords (etymology): placing chords in various historical context.
- Understanding concepts such as functionality, cadences, sequences and chord progressions, diatonic and chromatic harmony, derived chords (secondary dominant, moll-Dur etc.), figurative use of chords, modulations, figurative notes.
- Harmonic formal structures.

Realisations of exercises of progressive difficulty and complex structure, containing all triads and all applications of the dominant seventh chord, including exceptional resolutions.

Harmonic analysis:
- Studying and commenting on the harmonic content of scores.
- Excerpts from musical literature dating from the Baroque to the Early Romanticism (Bach tot Schubert).
