Course Content

- Study of all aspects of the school fugue: thorough structural study and research of each component (exposition, countersubject, divertimenti in double and triple counterpoint, stretti, pedal constructions etc.), of the interrelations and of the complete concept of form.
- Research into musico-historical and stylistic context and evolution during the various style periods.
- Precursors, various types and important protagonists, the significance of the fugue in the 20th century.
- Substantive knowledge of key historical and current handbooks, treatises, reference works etc. about fugue.

Realisation of complete school fugues based on fugue themes of varying difficulty.
Optional: realisation of a school fugue based on own theme.
