Course Content

Study of polyphonic literature in a musicological and stylistic context.
Knowledge, recognition and location of contrapuntal phenomena and techniques - understanding of their interconnections.Knowledge of concepts such as modal, tonal and atonal counterpoint.
Learning of polyphonic form structures - various types.
Elementary knowledge of important handbooks related to counterpoint.
Applied writing exercises:
Fuxian counterpoint: elaboration of exercises of strict counterpoint (two- and three-part)
Study of the doctrine of imitation - exercises in various forms of two-voice imitation/canons
Analysis of scores from polyphonic literature.
