Course Content

Knowledge of Harmony:
- The tonal period.
- Broader and deeper study of the tonal, modal and post-tonal harmonic languages.
- The figuration.
- Total mastery of the chromaticism, the enharmony, the 'roving harmony' and difficult harmonic combinations.
- Study of the homophone Chorale.
- Understanding concepts of modality: the most important modes, modal cadences, style concept of the Franco-Flemish School and Renaissance polyphony.

Realisations of exercises of progressive difficulty and complex structure containing all classical chords and all figurative notes.
Realisations of style exercises based on the literature.
Realisations of excercises of Chorale.

Harmonic analysis:
Studying and commenting on the harmonic content of scores.
- Difficult music excerpts from the literature dating from the High and Late Romanticism (Franck, Mahler, Strauss, Wagner, national schools etc.)
- The post-tonal harmonic languages:
impressionism, neomodality, polytonality, interval harmony, the second Viennese school, panchromatism etc.
- The most important protagonists of the twentieth century:
Fauré, Debussy, Ravel etc.; Schönberg, Berg etc.; Bartok, Hindemith, Stravinsky, Messiaen etc.
