Course Content

Everything on level 1:
-Developing skills with regard to the format and analysis of common rhythms from the jazz/Latin/world music idiom on the basis of rhythm dictation
-The performance of rhythms in relation to the steady pulse (by physical experience)
-The development of a phonetic sound palette to perform specific rhythms with a groovy interpretation
-Training in the rhythmic correctly performance of historical-stylistic patterns (from jazz, Latin, world music, ...) and applying this within the wider artistic context of the performance practice (i.e. reading and creative improvisation)
-Training of rhythmic accuracy, physical independence, listening skills and communication with an audience and fellow musicians in a broader artistic performance practice
-Developing a thorough knowledge of the rhythmic building blocks from the existing repertory and the promotion of research to new and less known musical terrain

Course Objectives

-The student can apply his acquired style knowledge within the broader context of various ensembles (duo, trio, Quartet, big band, salsa band...)
-The student has the necessary rhythmic-musical skills and insights to adapt himself -as accompanist and as a soloist- into various professional ensembles and orchestras
